.Towne Craft Builders, LLC — with proper state and county licensing requirements — opened their doors in September 2002 to serve the residents of St. Mary’s and Calvert Counties. In 2006, Towne Craft expanded its focus to include remodeling and became Towne Craft Builders and Remodelers.
You may be thinking of a front exterior makeover (like our St. Mary's county customer to the left), a new room addition, or finishing off the basement to meet your lifestyle needs.
The following is a sampling of the various home remodeling and major renovation projects completed to date.
Recent home remodeling/addition highlights:
- {Lexington Park} Our client turned an unused formal living room into a home office/study by installing French Glass Doors in the openings between the foyer and living room and living and dinning room.
- {Leonardtown} Front Porch Makeover. This lovely waterfront home’s front porch had seen better days. The wood rails and post where showing their age and the concrete porch slab had settled in the middle by three to four inches. Towne Craft removed the old concrete slab added the fill necessary to bring the porch up to grade, tamped the fill, and replaced the concrete with brick pavers. The rails and posts were replaced with low maintenance vinyl rails and posts and handrails were added at the stairs for safety.
- {Lusby} Major renovation of lakeside home, sitting 30' below street level, where two-story screened porches on each side of residence were removed, making way for kitchen makeover; meditation room and two exercise rooms; all materials and debris were hand carried to and from the job via a series of wooden walkways and stairs.
- {Wildewood} Knocking out walls; clearing surrounding wooded yard for a luxury in-law suite addition with custom cabinetry in the library and master bath; Anderson Windows and doors throughout; high efficiency gas furnace and air conditioner and custom paint colors.
- {Leonardtown - Singletree} Finished basement assistance. As often happens, a more than capable do-it-yourselfer with a limited amount of time and good intentions ran into scheduling conflicts. This client called Towne Craft to help move the project along. We took over where the owner’s time ran out and helped get the project back on track.
- {Sotterley} A 1980’s built Cape Cod front exterior makeover; from first meeting with resident, it took 60 days for conceptual drawings, permit acquisition and makeover construction; owner judges he already has recouped his financial investment.
- {Great Mills} 18’ x 22’ Addition to split-foyer home; with full bath added in the existing basement.
- {Leonardtown} Screened porch on an existing two-story deck facing Breton Bay. These owners of a beautiful waterfront home found they couldn’t enjoy the view from their deck all season long. Now with an enclosed screened porch on part of the upper deck, they enjoy outdoors all season.
- {Leonardtown} Basement Exit Window. As often happens, a basement without an outside exit is finished. While this makes excellent use of the existing structure and certainly economic sense sometimes it doesn’t make safety sense. Even when a room isn’t a bedroom if someone could be trapped in a fire in an underground room you might, as this owner did, want to provide an emergency exit. In this case, we cut through the foundation wall and installed an exit window with an oversized window well so if need be, the occupants of the room could climb to safety in the event of a fire. The added benefit: a once dark room now has some natural sunlight.
- {Hollywood} 22’ x 32’ three-car garage with second floor in-law apartment above; included a 14’ x 6’ veranda/entrance on first floor with a 14’ x 6’ covered deck on second floor.
- {Dunkirk} Custom gazebo added to an existing deck
These projects — and those about to commence — range in price from $6,000 to $500,000. All of the completed home renovations have already added long-term investment value to the homeowner’s asset.

Some of our upcoming home remodeling projects:
- {Wildwood} Add a bedroom, deck and screened porch. A spare bedroom is being utilized as a den/TV room which hampers this owner’s ability to accommodate overnight stays for family and friends. Their solution: turn a screened porch into a spare bedroom/TV room. Not wanting to lose the screened porch they so much enjoy, a new low maintenance deck with Fiberon Decking and Azek trim will be added. Half of this 10’x25’ home remodeling project will be screened in for seasonal enjoyment.
- {California, Scotch Point} Whole house makeover. The owners of this 1970’s brick rambler are ready for an update. The children have left the nest and one of the spare bedrooms will make way for an enlarged master bedroom and luxury master bath turning these rooms into a Master Suite complete with a spacious walk-in closet. The hall bath will be completely updated and most importantly, the kitchen, dining and living areas will be completely remodeled. To make way for this new and spacious area, the stairs to the basement will be relocated, the living room exterior wall will be extended, and a new entrance to the home will be created. There are plans for a walk-in kitchen pantry and when complete, all three rooms: kitchen, dining and living — while remaining separate areas — will converge to make one family-friendly gathering room.
- {Leonardtown, Chestnut Ridge} In-law-suite. We are about to enter the design stage with these clients who want to take advantage of their walk-out basement to make room for their parents. The proposed solution includes a self contained apartment complete with a kitchen and room addition. The addition will extend the family room above and create a courtyard effect for a separate entrance for Mom and Dad and bring lots of natural sunlight into this finished basement.
- {Saint Mary’s City} Master suite. The owners of this 1960’s split level recently completed a whole house makeover of this stunning waterfront home and are at it again. This time the owners have elected to work with Towne Craft Builders and Remodelers. We are about to enter the design stage of this project and will work with the owners to create an addition on the backside of the home that extends the existing master bedroom and bath to create a Master Suite. The most challenging part of this project is the owner’s request to create an observation area accessible from the new Master Suite in the rear that will overlook the front of the home and have a view of the water at the front of the property. Simultaneously, our job is to integrate the addition into the Craftsman stile previously created during the original makeover while not making it look like an addition.
- {California, Kingston Creek} Custom circular decks. These waterfront owners have just completed installing a new in-ground pool with a brick paver pool deck. They want more deck space for entertainment purposes, but are limited by impervious area restrictions. To enlarge the deck space they plan to make use of the building code which allows deck areas over impervious ground provided there is a ¼” gap between decking boards. The client has selected Fiberon decking boards with Azek trim and the plans currently call for two circular decks adjoining the pool deck.
